Hollywood Bull in the China Shop Part One: Insights into Entering the Chinese Film Market


Justin Feldman graduated from Emory University with a joint degree in History and Psychology in 2004.  He moved to Los Angeles and began working in the production department on music videos and commercials for industry leaders like Partizan, MARS Media/HSI, RSA, and advertising firms like Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather, and TBWA Chiat Day. After returning to pursue an MFA at the School of Cinematic Arts at USC, he graduated in 2009 and began working as a producer and programmer at MN et America, an offshoot of Korea's most popular music television network where he produced several shows. A fluent Mandarin speaker, Justin has spent the past three years in Beijing as the vice president in charge of production for Base Media, the original content division of China's  largest post/VFX firm.


Justin helped to oversee the company's first original slate of content, from initial acquisition and concept creation and provided a legal and strategic framework to build future slates of both localized and international focus. These initiatives culminated in content sales to Tencent Media for 'Fog Zone,' a long form series with feature quality visual effects to be delivered on a premium digital video subscription platform, akin to Netflix in the US or iRoko in Africa. Justin and his team were awarded the 2014 Emmy award for outstanding special effects in a supporting role, presented to Starz original series 'Black Sails'. He recently enrolled in the UCLA Anderson School of Business Executive program and is a consultor for several Chinese companies. He is based in Los Angeles and Beijing.
